FtsZ Polymer Stabilizer, PC190723 A benzamide ether derivative that exhibits potent bactericidal activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus subtilis (minimum inhibitory concentration = 0.5 to 1 mg/ml), but does not affect E. coli, yeast, or human hepatocytes. Shown to reduce GTPase activity and induce FtsZ (a prokaryotic homologue of tubulin) polymerization in S. aureus in a dose-dependent manner. Reported to directly inhibit the GTPase activity of FtsZ in a concentration dependent manner (IC50 = 55 ng/ml). Shown to bind between the C-ternimal domain and helix 7 in a region analogous to the Taxol binding site of tubulin.
