Background Information:
G protein-coupled receptor kinase 7 (GRK7) is a distinct visual kinase pigment found in retinal cones and is a recently identified member of the AGC Ser/Thr protein kinase family. GRK7 actively phosphorylates rhodopsins, signaling their deactivation. Studies have shown the specific activity of GRK7 to be roughly 10 times higher than its rod counterpart GRK1. It is also much more highly expressed. GRK7 has been reported in several vertebrate species including human, monkey, pig, and 13-lined ground squirrel; however, it is entirely absent from the mouse genome.
