Specificity:
The antibody C-PEP-01 reacts specifically with C-peptide, a part of the Pro-insulin molecule.
Molecular Weight:
Approx. 12 kDa
Immunogen:
Synthetic C-peptide of human pro-insulin conjugated to bovine serum albumin.
Clone:
C-PEP-01
Isotype:
IgG1
Background Information:
Pro-Insulin consists of the three parts: C-peptide and two long strands of amino acids (alpha and beta chains; later become linked together to form the Insulin molecule). From every molecule of Pro-Insulin, one molecule of Insulin plus one molecule of C-peptide are produced. C-peptide is released into the blood stream in equal amounts to Insulin.
Species Reactivity:
Human
Species Reactivity Note:
Reacts with human. No cross-reactivity with Insulin or other peptide hormones or proteins was observed.
Control:
Human normal pancreas tissue
Quality Assurance:
Evaluated by Immunohistochemistry in normal human pancreas.
Immunohistochemistry Analysis: A 1:100 dilution of this antibody detected insulin in human normal pancreas tissue.
Purification Method:
Sequential precipitation with caprylic acid and ammonium sulfate.
Presentation:
Mouse monoclonal IgG1 in phosphate buffered saline, pH7.4, and 15 mM sodium azide.
Storage Conditions:
Store at 2-8°C and use within 1 year from date of receipt.

Key Applications:
Immunohistochemistry (Paraffin)
UniProt Summary:
FUNCTION: Insulin decreases blood glucose concentration. It increases cell permeability to monosaccharides, amino acids and fatty acids. It accelerates glycolysis, the pentose phosphate cycle, and glycogen synthesis in liver.
SUBUNIT STRUCTURE: Heterodimer of a B chain and an A chain linked by two disulfide bonds.
SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Secreted.
INVOLVEMENT IN DISEASE: Defects in INS are the cause of familial hyperproinsulinemia [MIM:176730].
PHARMACEUTICAL USE: Available under the names Humulin or Humalog (Eli Lilly) and Novolin (Novo Nordisk). Used in the treatment of diabetes. Humalog is an insulin analog with 52-Lys-Pro-53 instead of 52-Pro-Lys-53.
SEQUENCE SIMILARITIES: Belongs to the insulin family.
SEQUENCE CAUTION: The sequence AAA59179.1 differs from that shown. Reason: Erroneous gene model prediction.
