Specificity:
This antibody recognizes Akt1/PKBα.
Molecular Weight:
~60 kDa
Epitope:
C-terminus
Immunogen:
Sythetic peptide (C-RPHFPQFSYSASGTA) corresponding to the C-terminal (residues 466-480) of rat Akt1/PKBα.
Clone:
AW24
Isotype:
IgG
Background Information:
The serine threonine protein kinase encoded by the AKT1 gene is catalytically inactive in serum starved primary and immortalized fibroblasts. AKT1 and the related AKT2 are activated by platelet derived growth factor. The activation is rapid and specific. In the developing nervous system AKT is a critical mediator of growth factor induced neuronal survival. Survival factors can suppress apoptosis in a transcription independent manner by activating the serine/threonine kinase AKT1, which then phosphorylates and inactivates components of the apoptotic machinery. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants have been found for this gene.

Rat
Species Reactivity Note:
Human, mouse, rat.
Control:
HEK293 cell lysate.
Quality Assurance:
Evaluated by western blot on RIPA lysates from human HEK293 cells.
Western Blotting Analysis: A 1:1,000 dilution of this antibody detected Akt1/PKBα in RIPA lysates from human HEK293 cells.
Presentation:
Cultured supernantant containing 0.05% sodium azide.
Storage Conditions:
Stable for 1 year at -20ºC from date of receipt.
Handling Recommendations: Upon receipt, and prior to removing the cap, centrifuge the vial and gently mix the solution. Aliquot into microcentrifuge tubes and store at -20°C. Avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles, which may damage IgG and affect product performance.
