Functional Aspects:
Microphthalmia transcription factor (MITF) protein is a nuclear transcription factor thought to act in the regulation of genes encoding the enzymes required for melanogenesis. MITF is crucial for the development and postnatal viability of melanocytes and exists in several isoforms, MITF-A, -C, -H and -M. This antibody is specific for MITF-M that is expressed in normal and malignant melanocytes, and so may help identify these cells in a variety of tissue types. |
