Limit of detection: 80% B/B0: 21 pg/ml · Sensitivity: 50% B/B0: 65 pg/ml · Aldosterone, a steroid hormone secreted by the adrenal cortex, is the principle mineralocorticoid controlling sodium and potassium balance.1↗,2↗ The primary role of aldosterone is to promote unidirectional salt reabsorption across a variety of epithelial tissues, the salivary gland, intestine, sweat glands, and the kidney. Aldosterone is synthesized from cholesterol in the zona glomerulos of the adrenal cortex. Secretion of aldosterone is complicated, being affected by both hormones and electrolytes. However, the renin-angiotensin system (RAS) is the primary regulator of aldosterone secretion.3↗ Angiotensin II and potassium stimulate secretion of aldosterone by increasing the rate of synthesis of the hormone. The Cayman Chemical Aldosterone EIA Kit - Monoclonal is a competitive assay that provides measurements of aldosterone within the range of 7.8-1,000 pg/ml, typically with a detection limit (80% B/B0) of approximately 21 pg/ml. Each kit includes AChE tracer, antiserum, standard, Ellman’s Reagent, EIA buffer, wash buffer, Tween 20, plates precoated with anti-mouse IgG, and complete instructions.
