Specificity:
This antibody recognizes Kv1.3 at the C-terminus.
Molecular Weight:
~58 kDa observed. The molecular weight band at ~ 150 kDa could be the heterotetramer of Kv1.3. The ~ 23kDa band could be a truncate fragment of kv1.3 truncate fragment. (Tu, L., et al. (1996) J. Biol. Chem. 271(31):18904−18911.)
Epitope:
C-terminus
Immunogen:
Linear peptide corresponding to rat Kv1.3 at the C-terminus.
Clone:
L23/27
Isotype:
IgG2a
Background Information:
Potassium channel Kv1.3 is a voltage gated channel most commonly found in the plasma membrane, and recently also found in the inner mitochondrial membrane. It is thought that Kv1.3 is instrumental in the apoptosis signaling pathway. During the onset of apoptosis, Bax binds to Kv1.3 and hinder its function, this action causes hyperpolarization. This increases the production of reactive oxygen species and cytochrome c. Kv1.3 may also be a member of the pathway in cells outside of just lymphocytes.

Key Applications:

Immunocytochemistry
UniProt Summary:
FUNCTION: Mediates the voltage-dependent potassium ion permeability of excitable membranes. Assuming opened or closed conformations in response to the voltage difference across the membrane, the protein forms a potassium-selective channel through which potassium ions may pass in accordance with their electrochemical gradient.
SUBUNIT STRUCTURE: Heterotetramer of potassium channel proteins (By similarity). Binds PDZ domains of DLG1, DLG2 and DLG4.
SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Memb |
