The phosphorylation of tyrosine residues in the now activated receptor can control multiple signaling events such as actin reorganization, transcription, cell growth, migration and differentiation, and also lead to activation of the Ras ? Raf ? ERK1&2 pathway. Phosphorylation of tyrosine 754 in the α subunit of the heterodimeric complex is thought to initiate specific signal-transduction pathways distinct from those initiated via homodimeric receptor complexes, as tyrosine 754 has not been shown to be phosphorylated in those complexes.
