Tight junctions are specialized regions of cell-cell contact that are particularly abundant in luminal epithelial cell sheets. A study showed that Claudin-3 was found to be present or secreted by many of the genes up-regulated in ovarian cancer. Furthermore, in a recent study Claudin-3 expression was shown capable of mediating Clostridium perfringens enterotoxin (CPE) binding and cytolysis; this suggests that Claudin-3 could be a potential therapeutic strategy for prostate cancer.
