Rat
Quality Assurance:
Routinely evaluated by immunoblot.
Presentation:
In 60% storage buffer (50 mM Tris-Glycine (pH 7.4), 0.15 M NaCl, 0.01% sodium azide and 0.05% BSA) and 40% glycerol.
Storage Conditions:
2 year at -20°C from date of shipment. Upon first thaw, and prior to removing the cap, centrifuge the vial and gently mix the solution. Aliquot into microcentrifuge tubes and store at -20°C. Avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles, which may damage IgG and affect product performance. Note: Variability in freezer temperatures below -20°C may cause glycerol-containing solutions to become frozen during storage.

Entrez Gene Summary:
This gene encodes a flavoprotein essential for nuclear disassembly in apoptotic cells that is found in the mitochondrial intermembrane space in healthy cells. Induction of apoptosis results in the translocation of this protein to the nucleus where it effects chromosome condensation and fragmentation. In addition, this gene product induces mitochondria to release the apoptogenic proteins cytochrome c and caspase-9. Three alternative transcripts encoding different isoforms have been identified for this gene.

UniProt Summary:
FUNCTION: SwissProt: O95831 # Probable oxidoreductase that acts as a caspase- independent mitochondrial effector of apoptotic cell death. Extramitochondrial AIF induces nuclear chromatin condensation and large scale DNA fragmentation (in vitro).
COFACTOR: FAD.
SIZE: 613 amino acids; 66901 Da
SUBUNIT: Binds to DNA in a sequence-independent manner.
SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Mitochondrion intermembrane space. Nucleus. Note=Translocated to the nucleus upon induction of apoptosis.
SIMILARITY: SwissProt: O95831 ## Belongs to the FAD-dependent oxidoreductase family.
