Functional Aspects: Mycobacteria are Gram-positive, non-motile, acid-fast bacilli, related to Actinomyces. Currently there are 41 species in the genus Mycobacterium. These include M. tuberculosis, M. africanum, M. bovis, which are members of the Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex (MTBC), and M. avium-intracellulare. All of these express a version of the 38kD Protein Antigen B (PAB). |
