This lectin is a tetrameric glycoprotein composed of four subunits of nearly identical size. Each 30,000 dalton subunit has a binding site for alpha- or beta-linked N-acetylglucosamine residues. Unlike other N-acetylglucosamine specific lectins, increasing the number of N-acetylglucosamine residues beyond two does not improve affinity. GSL II has been reported to be unique in its ability to recognize exclusively alpha- or beta-linked N-acetylglucosamine residues on the nonreducing terminal of oligosaccharides.Fluorescein labeled Griffonia (Bandeiraea) Simplicifolia Lectin II is produced by using the highest quality fluorescein isothiocyanate, our affinity-purified lectin, and special conjugation procedures. Fluorescein labeled Griffonia (Bandeiraea) Simplicifolia Lectin II has an appropriate number of fluorochromes bound which provide the maximum fluorescence and optimum staining characteristics for this particular lectin. This lectin is supplied essentially free of unconjugated fluorochromes and inactive lectin. Fluorescein labeled Griffonia (Bandeiraea) Simplicifolia Lectin II has an excitation at 495 nm and an emission at about 515 nm.
